Length 1 hr. In this Great White Egret watercolor tutorial, we’ll focus on one of my favorite challenges—painting a white subject without relying on white paint. You’ll learn how subtle cool and warm color shifts, carefully placed shadows, and strong value contrasts can give the egret form, dimension, and life.
We’ll also work through the loose, richly layered background, using dark values and varied greens to make the bright bird stand out dramatically. Along the way, I’ll show you how to keep the background interesting without competing with the focal point, and how small details in the eye bring the entire painting to life.
